Picky Pony was born from a challenge that many horse owners recognize: horses refusing to eat grain due to unpalatable supplements and medications. Lisa Merritt, co-founder and a graduate of North Carolina State University with a degree in Biochemistry, experienced this common issue firsthand alongside her sister, Susan, and her daughters, Arden and Kendall, who have all been deeply involved in the equestrian community for years. When their horses consistently rejected feed containing supplements, Lisa, Susan, and Kendall set out to find effective horse feeding solutions.
By combining Lisa’s scientific expertise with Susan and Kendall’s extensive equine experience, the trio began experimenting in the kitchen to develop Picky Pony supplements that would enhance the appeal of necessary medications and supplements for horses. After careful formulation and rigorous testing, they successfully created the first batch of Picky Pony.
The results were strikingly positive. Their horses eagerly accepted their feed, transforming what was once a daily struggle into a simple, stress-free routine. Motivated by the success they experienced in their own barn, they realized that many other horse owners faced the same challenge.
Today, Picky Pony is devoted to helping horse owners everywhere simplify feeding time and ensure their horses receive essential equine health products without the hassle of dealing with picky eaters.
